About the Association
APPA is a 501(c)(3) organization that was established by Bernice Hammond in the autumn of 1964 which engaged in the kind of coalition-building that linked other like-minded entities with similar goals and purposes. This, allowed APPA to be one of the pioneering vehicles for achieving purpose of bringing about “The Unity of Mankind Through the Arts”. Since its inception, the entity has remained dedicated to the arts and cultural education. In addition to musical (dance, instrumental and vocal) recitals, APPA has produced thousands of other events. A countless variety of artists and speakers of all ages have been featured along with an assortment of creative and intellectual works. APPA produced the first annual Black Folk Festival in DC, and has presented hundreds of choral voices from numerous local schools, church choirs, and communities.
